The Home & The World Of Work This study examines the impact of the Ready-made Garment (RMG) industry on the lives, work, and households of women in India's apparel export sector. It specifically focuses on how caste, class, and gender intersect to shape the vulnerabilities of female workers. The research explores how capitalist production systems influence social reproduction and rely on it, highlighting the connection between unpaid labor and low wages in these systems. The study is based on a survey of 184 women workers across 13 factories in Bengaluru and Mysuru, providing insights into the experiences of both local and inter-state migrant women. It reveals how women's migration and work patterns affect their lives and underscores broader implications for female labor force participation in the global low-wage supply chain.
