Nachrichten & Pressemeldungen - © Initiative Supply Chain Act 09 September 2020 Initiative protests with more than 222,222 signatures at the Federal Chancellery - Cabinet debate on supply chain law postponed again Activists of the Supply Chain Act initiative demonstrated today in Berlin. The meeting for a supply chain law has been postponed again. The demonstrators set up an oversized legal framework and symbolically handed over a petition with more than 222,222 signatures to the Federal Chancellery. Together with the alliance of more than 100 civil society organisations, FEMNET is calling for the law to no longer be postponed. In recent months, more than 222,222 signatures have been collected nationwide calling for a supply chain law. Many large companies, such as Ritter Sport, Tchibo or H&M, also support such a law. Nevertheless, the draft is further delayed. © FEMNETIn view of the debates within the federal government, the initiative sharply criticizes the position of Minister of Economic Affairs Peter Altmaier in particular. This blocks the draft supply chain law to prevent due diligence for companies. In particular, the Ministry of Economic Affairs wants to avoid the liability of companies in the case of grossly negligent violation of human and labour rights in their supply chain. "Without liability of companies for labour rights violations in their supply chain, which would only be enforceable if the company did not comply with its duty of care, the law does not deserve its name", says Gisela Burckhardt, CEO of FEMNET. In that case, those affected by human rights violations would hardly have a chance to claim compensation in German courts. We demand: Stop the delay and dilution! Join us now and write a protest email to Peter Altmaierto counter the blockade! More information The analysis ‘Proportional and reasonable: liability under the Supply Chain Act’ (PDF file)
