Fabric for tomorrow - Workshop series for a more sustainable (more) fashion industry
We live in a time of great change and uncertain futures. In order for children to learn how to deal positively with future issues and to strengthen their courage for the future, it is important that they learn early on that the future is not fixed – they can help shape it!
In order to promote this competence in shaping the future, we invite third and fourth grade students to work with us to understand the present, to reflect on the future and to visualize which future is desirable and configurable.
We offer an Multi-part workshop series on the global apparel industry to. The orientation towards the textile value chain and the product clothing sets a clear framework, which at the same time allows excursions into other topics (e.g. human rights, consumption and sustainability, globalization and social inequality). The series is divided into three sub-areas, which can be treated over one or more days:
- Content introduction/background: We provide children with knowledge about global clothing production through interactive and playful educational units.
- Dealing with your own visions of the future/thinking about the future: We focus on the imaginative design of a desirable future. For this purpose, diverse methods of future education are used and the children are supported in dealing with futures in a positive and creative way, designing their own perspectives on a desirable future and discovering spaces for action.
- Practical units: The visions and ideas of the future that the children have worked out before will be translated into action. This can be done on the individual and on the structural level and include, for example, trying out alternatives in dealing with clothes, small exhibitions or performances.
The workshop series is offered for schools in Cologne and the surrounding area. It can take place as an AG in the current school year or in the holiday care.
