Black Friday: Solidarity instead of bargain hunting

Dear friends of FEMNET,

Today, on the International Day of Violence against Women, we must say: The situation of many women worldwide has deteriorated again in the last two years.

Women in the clothing industry are also once again experiencing severe repression. Businesses and governments used the crisis to mitigate hard-won labour rights:

  • In India, it is again permitted by law.Work up to 72 hours a week – without having to adjust wages or pay overtime.
  • The Work of trade unions It is becoming increasingly difficult: Strikes must be announced and at least 51% of workers must be members for the association to be recognized.
  • As the economic situation in Europe eases, the pressure on women in production plants is growing. In the patriarchal structures The industry is once again experiencing an increase in the number of Gender-based violence.

Today, on the International Day against Violence against Women, we are launching our great Solidarity campaign #eintshirtzumleben. We call on the public to show solidarity with the unknown seamstress with a social media participation campaign about their own clothes.

In doing so, it will: T-shirt as Symbol of the fast-fashion system used to show the close connection between the seamstress and the wearer in this country. For one side, it is a necessary basis for life – for the other side, everyday life companions.

The campaign start could not be better in time, because tomorrow is the Black FridayMany companies have already Black weekend or a whole Black week Consumers are encouraged to buy with generous discounts. We therefore recommend:

Solidarity instead of bargain hunting!
