Labour rights in Bangladesh with Camelia Hasan and Carmen Maiwald
24 April marks the anniversary of the collapse of Rana Plaza, a building in Bangladesh that collapsed in 2013 and killed more than 1,100 textile workers. Since then, it has been a date that continues to shape the global fashion industry to this day.
Camelia Hasan talks about her work as a gender representative for the National Garment Workers Federation (NGWF), Bangladesh's largest textile union. It gives an insight into the reality of the textile industry: Working conditions, harassment in the workplace and what specifically changes trade union organisation for women in factories. She also talks about what we can do here to promote better working conditions in the fashion industry. The interview was conducted by host Anna Burst and journalist Carmen Maiwald
Musician IUMA rounded off the evening musically.
The live podcast was recorded on 24 April 2026 at Motoki in Cologne – a joint evening organised by FEMNET, Fairtrade Germany, Kleiderei and Fashion Revolution Germany, with financial support from Brot für die Welt.
