Gender-responsive procurement

Gender-responsive procurement strengthens equal opportunities throughout the supply chain, from production conditions to community use. Municipalities can thus make a targeted contribution to promoting fair working conditions for all genders and reducing existing inequalities.

Transparency in the supply chain

In the public debate on the sustainability and resilience of global supply chains, it is becoming increasingly clear how important transparency is as a factor. Sustainable procurement also thrives on transparency: Only those who know where and under what conditions products are manufactured can make responsible decisions. Municipalities play a key role – they can contribute to fairer global production conditions through clear requirements for companies.

Our offers

Here on our website or via channels such as the Sustainability Compass, we share key findings, formulation aids and practical examples that have been developed in the course of our work.

Through workshops for both administrative staff and equality officers and a pilot project, we support municipalities in integrating the perspective of gender equality and transparency into their procurement practices:

workshop

Procurement in a gender-responsive manner - impulses & exchanges for fair procurement practices

Thursday, 30 October 2025 from 13.45 to 15.30 as part of the SKEW Network Meeting

Together, experiences, challenges and approaches to promote gender equality in the supply chain will be discussed. After a short input on basics and empirical values, the focus is on the exchange between interested and experienced municipalities. The aim is to learn from each other and to take impulses for one's own practice.

Technical event

Strengthening equality through procurement. Strategies for gender-responsive public procurement practices

Friday, 5th. December from 10:00 to 16:30

With the procurement of services and goods, the public sector has an effective tool at its disposal to actively promote equality. But how does the gender dimension come into practice? What practical examples already exist? What are the legal bases and strategic arguments for gender-sensitive procurement?

In addition to technical inputs, the specialist event offers space for exchange. On the basis of practical examples, ideas for a concrete implementation are developed in workshops.

The event is aimed at equal opportunities representatives from cities and municipalities, the federal states and the federal government as well as other interested parties from the public administration.

Registration for participation is possible until 12.11.2025. Places are limited. Placement will be awarded after the registration period.
