April 24th is the world's most important day of action for fair fashion and the conclusion of the global action week Fashion Revolution Week. It will take place on the anniversary of the collapse of the ‘Rana Plaza’ building with several textile factories in Bangladesh in 2013. The Bonn-based women's rights organisation FEMNET e.V. therefore invites you to the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum (RJM) Cologne on Sunday, 24 April 2022 to conclude its solidarity and education campaign #eintshirtzumleben. At the same time, this marks the culmination of their cooperation in the context of the sustainability theme series ‘Rethink Fashion!’. Burckhardt: The ‘political impact’ of fashion and art The T-shirt artworks can be seen from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in addition to DJ music, fair fashion show and live performances with free admission in the foyer of the museum. The evening programme for press and invited guests starts at 6 p.m. and includes, in addition to the Fairlosung Talks and highlights from the campaign (see programme on page 2), moderated by Janine ‘Green Janine’ Steeger. For the first time, art and fashion, politics and sustainability come together at this event. FEMNET founder and CEO Dr. Gisela Burckhardt said: “We need more awareness of the value of fashion if we are to change the global textile industry in a sustainable way. Fashion and art have always been closely intertwined with great, even political, radiance. We are therefore proud that we were able to attract such great artists to the campaign. They show how many ways fast fashion can be countered.” Snoep: “We are looking forward to the grand finale” The T-shirt is the epitome of disposable fashion for FEMNET. The works of art enhance it and range thematically from animal welfare to feminism and climate migration to exploitation. They make strong statements for greater appreciation and fairness in the global textile industry (online gallery https://eintshirtzumleben.de/de/fairlosung/kunstwerke). Since summer 2021, the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum has been cooperating with FEMNET as part of Rethink Fashion!, its first series of topics in the field of sustainability. RJM Director Nanette Snoep: “We gave voice to political and economic actors, activists and artists and discussed with them the economic and social aspects of a globalised textile economy. In addition to FEMNET, we cooperate with ecosign/Akademie für Gestaltung and Integrationshaus e.V. and have an important sponsor with the LVR. We look forward to the productive cooperation and the grand finale at the end of April." Exhibition: hours From Saturday, April 23, the works of art will initially be freely accessible as a photo exhibition during the regular opening hours of the museum in the foyer of the RJM. The T-shirt artworks themselves will be on display on Sunday, April 24 from 3 pm to 6 pm and from 6 pm for invited guests. #eintshirtzumleben is funded by the Stiftung Umwelt und Entwicklung NRW.
