News about Our Work - © Aurora 08 March 2023 Global, fair – female! International Women's Day 2023 The future is female. Without women who are equal and leaders in decision-making, there will be no strong and just societies. The situation in the global textile and fashion industry has long reminded us that millions of women are still far from decent living and working conditions and thus from equal participation. https://femnet.de/administrator/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&layout=edit#wf-editor-wysiwyg Seamstresses still often work twelve hours a day for a starvation wage, overtime is rarely or incorrectly paid, freedom of assembly is prohibited or restricted. The price and time pressure exerted by Western textile companies on their suppliers is passed on to the beginning of the supply chain – to the workers! In general, we have observed an aggravation of the situation since the coronavirus crisis: Populist currents and the enforcement of patriarchal structures are increasing again, labor rights that have been laboriously won are being undermined under the pretext of economically necessary consolidations. Our trips abroad to India and Bangladesh have shown us that the break-up of political and economic power relations is the decisive lever for change. In cooperation with our local partners, we work right there – and achieve a lot, for example through our Legal Aid Fund, which supports women in labour rights violations. Within one year, we were able to obtain around 91,000 euros in compensation for 407 workers. Together, we can help even more women and continuously break the balance of power.
