Updated country profile of Ukraine. The country profile provides basic information on the clothing industry and wage situation in Ukraine. In terms of wages, average wages, minimum wages and subsistence wages are discussed. The country profile shows wage-related labour and human rights violations and formulates demands to remedy them. It summarises the results of an on-site investigation.

The aim of the report is to explain which due diligence obligations companies make in their foreign activities with regard to the observance of human rights. What are companies' expectations of respect for human rights? The report compares the legal situation in Austria, Switzerland and Germany. In the introduction, the requirements for corporate due diligence with regard to compliance with human rights according to the international standard are presented. The relevant reference standards are the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises.

With a material booklet, the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) takes a look at the production conditions in the textile industry. Whether in Bangladesh, India, Indonesia or Eastern Europe: the restriction or violation of human rights, labour and social laws is the order of the day.

The material booklet provides background information on textile production sites as well as interviews with seamstresses, information on the existing international legal framework and on how and where buyers and consumers can get involved. It informs about alliances to improve the work situation of seamstresses, corporate responsibility and which projects provide support so that people can know and claim their rights. In addition, the booklet shows how the topic of fashion production is now perceived critically: in exhibitions, documentaries, film and literature.

This report was commissioned by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. It addresses the concept of a circular economy in the textile industry with a particular focus on fibres in the garment and fashion sector. The contents are based on a comprehensive literature analysis, an expert workshop held during this 2018’s Cradle to Cradle (C2C) international congress as well as more than 20 interviews with professionals from the textile sector.

The report outlines the conceptual implications for a circular textile sector, presents the status quo of implementing a circular textile industry at the EU level, assesses innovative recycling technologies and discusses challenges and potential solutions for the transformation to a circular textile sector.
