Colonial history. The long road to reappraisal.

In this radio interview, Tahir Della analyzes the ongoing continuities between colonial history and contemporary racism. He argues that Europe's colonial project was based on racist concepts of the Enlightenment (including Hegel and Kant) that legitimized the disenfranchisement and exploitation of people. Della emphasizes the enormous research gaps and the urgent need for reappraisal in European societies. In his view, genuine decolonization requires not only historical research, but also the active examination of this past as the basis of European wealth and the consequent change of today's social conditions.
