FEMNET partner organisation SAVE distributes food to families

Workers from Tamil Nadu have an employment contract with the factory, which either includes a monthly wage or they are paid by piece. They have not received any wages since March 23, 2020. There is no short-time work allowance, as in Germany, where the state supports companies. However, citizens in need can receive food from Tamil Nadu with the help of a ration card.

With a van, she distributes food in the slums, per family with around 4 people wheat flour or rice, potatoes, drinking water in 10l containers and oil for cooking.

For 20,- EUR, a family can survive 14 days with these staple foods.

SAVE uses clear criteria for the selection of families in order to determine the need. All families are asked to provide information on employment and the emergency situation. It is even checked in the tents and apartments whether food is still available.
