Pressemeldungen - © shironosov - iStock.com 14 July 2020 Fair wear works: GNF and FEMNET support companies in ecologically fair textile purchasing The Global Nature Fund (GNF) and FEMNET are launching a joint project to improve the procurement of textiles in companies. Through targeted Purchasing strategies are positively influenced by sustainable working conditions and environmental impacts along the supply chain. A survey for all interested companies is currently underway to determine the consulting needs. Not only do private individuals need textiles, but many companies also need workwear, laundry or merchandise items. This is where the joint project of GNF and FEMNET comes in: With ‘Fair Wear Works’, the partners want to use targeted information materials and events to raise companies’ awareness of the social and environmental relevance of responsible textile purchasing and develop tailor-made offers for their purchase. The fact that textiles for the German market are often produced under inhumane conditions has not only been known since the corona crisis, but has recently shown itself again in all drasticness: Countless workers lost their jobs from one day to the next because the large textile companies cancelled their orders. But even in normal times, low wages, forced overtime and a lack of employee determination are commonplace in most production facilities. Extensive water consumption, chemicals in rivers and an eight percent share of global CO emissions make textiles a highly critical product, even from an ecological point of view. Companies interested in purchasing textiles more sustainably can contact the project partners. Because sustainable solutions for the integration of social and ecological criteria in the company's own purchasing guidelines not only help people and the environment, but also meet the communication of entrepreneurial commitments in the areas of CSR and sustainability. A survey is currently underway to determine the need for advice and information materials. All interested companies can take part.
