Turnfest Leipzig 2025: Kick-off for the ideas competition as part of the fairness campaign "Sport Fairändert"

Press release of the Global Nature Fund & Femnet e.V. in the project ‘Fair Wear Works’ - Fairness campaign Turnfest

The International German Gymnastics Festival Leipzig 2025 sends a strong signal for sustainability in sport. As part of the fairness campaign "Sport Fairändert - Our club, our values. For a fair future", a competition of ideas was launched, which encourages sports clubs to develop innovative projects for greater social and ecological commitment in the field of textile products.

The competition is aimed at all registered gymnastics clubs and includes the categories sustainable textile procurement in the association, innovation and creativity in dealing with old textiles and promotion of awareness and education.

Clubs can participate in one or all categories and present their creative solutions for a more sustainable future in sports.

An expert jury from the fields of sustainable fashion, textile production, sports and social responsibility will evaluate the submitted projects on the basis of criteria such as sustainability, creativity and reach. The 40 winners will each receive 12 sports shirts made of 100% Lyocell - an innovative, environmentally friendly material made of wood fibres from sustainably managed European forests and will receive a public award at the gymnastics festival in Leipzig.

The fairness campaign of this year's gymnastics festival will be implemented together with the Global Nature Fund, and supported by FEMNET e.V., as part of the "Fair Wear Works" project. The campaign is funded by ENGAGEMENT GLOBAL on behalf of the BMZ, the German Postcode Lottery and Fairtrade Germany.

"We want to strengthen the purchasing managers of the associations as part of a global movement for more sustainability," explains Bettina Faust, project manager at Fair Wear Works.

Kati Brenner, OK Managing Director International German Gymnastics Festival, adds: “With this competition, Turnfest Leipzig 2025 underlines its commitment to sustainability and invites all participating sports clubs to get creative and submit their ideas for a fair and sustainable future.”
