Pressemitteilungen - Faire Beschaffung für die öffentliche Hand © FEMNET ⁇ Stefan Klübert 04 May 2022 Call “Implementing sustainable public procurement in NRW!” The state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia will take place on 15 May 2022. Almost all political parties have defined climate protection, environmental protection and social justice as goals of their policies. An important lever for achieving these goals is sustainable public procurement in the country and especially in the cities and municipalities in North Rhine-Westphalia. By signing the call, we want to send a clear signal that it is time to take effective policy action to achieve these goals. The future state government must urgently take measures to harness the enormous potential and great purchasing power of the public sector to meet sustainability goals in NRW and beyond. This is the only way to achieve ambitious climate goals and protect our nature and the people of North Rhine-Westphalia and along (global) supply chains. Experience from North Rhine-Westphalia and other federal states has shown: Sustainable public procurement does not happen on its own. Contracting entities in cities, districts and municipalities cannot cope with the transformation of public procurement without support. The state administration must not only lead by example, but also create the necessary framework conditions and structures. These include: The introduction of mandatory minimum requirements and evidence of sustainability criteria and legal frameworks for sustainable public procurement The definition of objectives, indicators and timelines, as well as evaluation and monitoring of implementation The organisation of training and qualification measures for administrative staff in NRW The establishment of a competence centre for sustainable procurement at state level We invite municipalities, organisations, politicians and private individuals to sign our call and to commit themselves to a more sustainable state policy after the election, which particularly supports the municipalities in the country, as the most important actors for a more sustainable way of life and economy in Germany, in the implementation of sustainable public procurement.
