News & Press Releases - Fair procurement for the public sector Technical opinion on the Sustainable Textile Procurement Guide published In a technical statement, FEMNET and the Christian Initiative Romero (CIR) commented on the recently published ‘Guide of the Federal Government for Sustainable Textile Procurement of the Federal Administration’ and pointed out shortcomings. In principle, both organisations welcome the publication of the guide and see it as an important tool with which the authorities of the federal administration can use their purchasing volume to improve production conditions in the textile supply chain. The guide will influence the technical debate and practice of sustainable public procurement, including in local and regional authorities. Unfortunately, the guideline has failed to set binding targets with time limits for sustainable textile procurement in federal administrations. In addition, the level of ambition of the social criteria and the integration of corporate due diligence obligations, which fall far short of positive examples from procurement practice, need to be readjusted, among other things.
