Gender-Responsive Health Protection - News

How can a gender perspective on occupational safety and health be implemented in practice?

Trade unions, civil society organisations and factory management once again discussed experiences and obstacles at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Due Diligence Forum in the clothing and footwear sector this year.

The discussion focused on the concrete implementation of a gender-sensitive OSH perspective. The participants presented examples of their work from different perspectives: a trade unionist and long-standing worker in the footwear industry reported successful negotiations with factory management, NGO representatives from India and Indonesia gave examples from their work and two representatives from factories from India and Indonesia showed what they have achieved in the area of occupational health and safety specifically for women – and what is still missing. Important topics such as muscle problems, poor nutrition and risks to mental and reproductive health were considered in the exciting discussion from a gender perspective.
