Educational work with young people – Teaching Modules & Workshops

Workshops and project days at the school and in extracurricular educational work: For a sustainable approach to fashion!

A conscious approach to fashion feels good, unleashes creativity and is simply fun! Our educational offer for schools and extracurricular youth groups shows how to implement this – and why we all play a role in the fashion industry.

The workshops can be booked via FEMNET and can be carried out as part of project weeks, as an extension of corresponding focal points or as an individual unit. Booking is possible through school classes, AGs and extracurricular youth groups, such as scouts, confirmants or firm groups.

Our topics

  1. Sustainability standards (seal) for fair fashion
Fair fashion is in and the offer of textile seals is great. But what makes a good sustainability standard and what effect can be expected from the certifications?
  2. Climate Impacts of the Global Garment Industry
The mass consumption of cheap fashion has dramatic consequences for the climate and the environment. What are the polluters along the supply chain and how can we help mitigate their impact?
  3. Globalisation, human rights and working conditions
The fashion industry is based on exploitation, human rights violations and global dependencies. What are the working conditions under which our clothes are made and what role do we play in these contexts?
  4. Women in the Fashion Industry
Around 85% of textile workers are female. Their daily lives in the factories are often marked by (sexualized) violence, abuse and beatings. One reason for this is the social position of women in the patriarchal societies of Southeast Asia. What images do we associate with gender affiliations?
  5. Supply Chain Laws and Corporate Responsibility
Do legal frameworks, such as the German Supply Chain Act, protect human rights or are they an empty promise? How can companies be made to take more responsibility along their global supply chains?
  6. Old clothes
80% of our old clothes end up in residual waste, which means that valuable resources are lost. Does the old clothes container offer an alternative and how can we dispose of our discarded fashion even more sustainably?

Prerequisites and concrete design of the educational units

Prokejtideen are developed in groups. © FEMNET© FEMNETThe modules are aimed at young people from about 14 years (or 8th grade) and can be booked individually or in combination. The FEMNET speakers will be happy to work with you to determine the focal points for your group or class. It is also possible to present the topics not in the form of workshops, but as lectures, discussion rounds or world cafés.

The implementation requires a time window of at least two lessons, but four hours or more are recommended. In addition to providing a room, we only need one projector.

As a non-profit organization, we are very grateful for voluntary financial participation from the school.

Now also as a webinar

New webinars schoolIn addition to the face-to-face workshops, we offer two digital workshops that deal with either the human rights situation in the producing countries or the global climate consequences of the clothing industry – and the scope for action that each of us has. The workshops focus on interactivity: Especially in the digital space, it is important to address different senses and to support collaborative and creative learning.

Each module lasts 90 minutes and is aimed at students and young people between the ages of 14 and 18. As a technical platform, we use zoom because it offers more options than other providers. If you are prohibited from holding zoom conferences for data protection reasons, we will be happy to think with you about alternatives.
