Annual Reports

We look back on a year with many challenges but also highlights. A highlight was the annual partnership with the city of Bonn, which we were able to celebrate at the same time as our 15th anniversary. We are also pleased that Germany has finally ratified the ILO Convention 190 against Gender-Based Violence in the Workplace.

But the challenges remain. Together with more than 100 other NGOs, we are committed to a more progressive supply chain law than the one applicable in Germany at EU level. We continued the fight for living wages, for health and against the suppression of trade union work together with cooperation partners in India, Banglasesch, Myanmar, Indonesia.

We look back again on a challenging year. The ongoing pandemic has further deteriorated the situation of female workers in India and Bangladesh. In Myanmar, too, seamstresses who courageously oppose the military regime are subjected to violence and reprisals. Human rights violations must not be tolerated in order to increase corporate profits – our political work opposed them in 2021 and advocated binding rules to protect people’s rights in a sustainable way. With success, because we have been strongly committed to the Supply Chain Act adopted in 2021.

At the same time, the interest in making public textile purchasing fairer continues to grow significantly. In the seventh year, the ‘Fair Public Procurement’ project has further increased its outreach and FEMNET consultation requests have also increased. In addition, we now also advise companies on sustainable textile purchasing.

FEMNET's work in 2020 was under the auspices of the coronavirus pandemic, both nationally and internationally. Corona forced us all into the home office and thus into a largely digital world of work. We quickly switched to online formats and continued many of the planned activities virtually.

The coronavirus pandemic and its impact on the lives of thousands of textile workers in India and Bangladesh led us to a new area of responsibility in 2020. Thanks to the close exchange with our partner organisations, the alarming situation quickly became clear as early as March. That's why we immediately set up a Corona Emergency Fund - a novelty for FEMNET, as our field of work is not in emergency and disaster relief. Rather, we have always taken the approach of working together with our partners to achieve structural improvements and structurally improve working conditions in the producing countries.

We present our political and educational work in our detailed annual report.
