Practical tips for youth hostels: Sustainably procuring textiles
Youth houses regularly and in large quantities procure textiles such as bed linen, T-shirts, work clothes and more. However, conventional textiles are produced worldwide under problematic conditions, so it is worthwhile to take a look at the already wide selection of sustainably produced alternatives. The new FEMNET factsheet aims to encourage youth hostels to get started: Use your procurement as a lever for global justice and the protection of natural resources.
The factsheet outlines simple first steps for fair purchasing and explains:
- why it makes sense to designate a competent person at the outset;
- how to define your own sustainability criteria for purchasing;
- how to find suitable suppliers and purchasing initiatives;
- and where they receive further information and advice.
In addition, the factsheet makes suggestions on how you can create visibility for your engagement and involve your visitors with small actions.
In existing initiatives, for example in the campaign ‘Faires Jugendhaus’ , which distinguishes youth houses for their commitment to fair trade, you will find like-minded people who have already taken their first steps.
Join us, try out sustainable shopping for your own home and contribute to more fairness for people and the environment in the textile and clothing industry.
