News about Our Work - © Victor Barro - Amigos de la Tierra 21 May 2021 Human Rights before Profits - Towards a UN-Treaty! The Treaty Alliance Germany has updated its flyer on the UN-Treaty. In addition to the Supply Chain Act in Germany, it describes the need to support the United Nations process for an agreement to implement binding rules on business and human rights worldwide. In addition, possibilities are shown, what each individual can do for it. In order for companies to respect human rights and environmental standards abroad and to effectively protect the rights of those affected, binding rules are needed. Proceedings on national supply chain laws show that these must be fought hard. The ongoing process of a UN agreement on business and human rights (UN-Treaty) since 2014 brings the topic to the global level: The Treaty would oblige all States parties to establish binding rules for companies and strengthen access to justice for those affected across borders. But the negotiations are stalled because countries of the Global North are not involved. Together with CorA, the Corporate Responsibility Network, FEMNET is committed to a UN treaty that requires states to commit companies to respect human rights and environmental standards through laws.
