Pride month: Strengthen visibility, live solidarity
Pride Month in June reminds us that diversity, equality and human dignity are not self-evident. Especially in times of increasing right-wing and queer-hostile tendencies, it is important to show an attitude: for an open society in which all people feel safe, seen and associated. FEMNET stands in solidarity with this goal and supports visibility.
Pride Month stands worldwide for the struggle for equal rights, social recognition and a self-determined life of queer people. It recalls the many people who experience discrimination – in everyday life, at work, in politics or in public spaces – and that visibility is an important step towards greater participation and protection.
At the same time, we are seeing achievements that have been fought for a long time come under increasing pressure. Right-wing and authoritarian movements seek to limit diversity, make queer people invisible and promote social division. We oppose this. A democratic and just society thrives on people being respected in their diversity and being able to live free from fear.
For FEMNET, diversity is part of a just and solidarity-based society. We are committed to ensuring that all people have equal rights and opportunities – and can move and express themselves without fear of exclusion or violence. Pride Month highlights the importance of cohesion, mutual respect and a clear stance against discrimination. Because only a society in which people are recognized and protected in their diversity is a society in which everyone can feel safe and belonging.
