Against Violence in Bangladesh's Clothing Industry: Interview with Kalpona Akter

Sexual harassment and violence are part of the bitter everyday lives of seamstresses in Bangladesh's textile factories. There are enough laws that should ensure a safer and fairer working environment.

The current coronavirus crisis exacerbates women’s deprivation, revealing structural problems and industrial mechanisms that have long caused inequality and exploitation. What can we learn from this crisis? Why is gender-based violence still one of the biggest challenges facing the clothing industry? And how can we change our consumption in this country to support women in Bangladesh?

In a live interview with Kalpona Akter, trade union leader and director of the Bangladesh Center for Workers Solidarity (BCWS), we got to the bottom of these questions and together we present our work in the fight against #violence against textile workers.
