Bangladesh: empowering women, creating focal points and laws

Our partner organisation BCWS is working resolutely towards the establishment of factory committees as focal points for women. In that way, workers can discuss their violent experiences in dialogue with each other and with the management. Clear responsibilities to address and resolve gender-based violence is key. Women are informed about their rights and supported to be able to help themselves.

Over 3,000 workers and numerous factory managers in Bangladesh participate in our training courses. 70% of them are women and 30% men. During the meetings with other women, the workers can exchange experiences in a protected space. Subsequent training sessions aim to strengthen awareness on their own rights and options for action.

In addition, we want to convince the political actors in Bangladesh - supported by a legal position paper – to improve the legal basis and its implementation.
