The FEMNET mission statement

Date: 1st of August 2017

Vision

Women around the world work and live in a self-determined and dignified way.

Mission

Strong women, fair work!

FEMNET supports women's rights in the global garment industry with political commitment, educational and advisory work and a solidarity fund. We demand that companies take responsibility for their actions and that politicians create binding rules.

Strategy

We support women worldwide by enforcing their rights.

We mobilise people for fairness along the supply chains of the garment industry: from workers to consumers.
We advocate for binding rules for companies. We work in alliances with trade unions, consumer and environmental organisations, churches and development policy organisations as well as human rights organisations such as the Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) and the Corporate Accountability Network for Corporate Responsibility.

We participate in voluntary initiatives such as the Partnership for Sustainable Textiles, a multi-stakeholder initiative of economy, civil society, standard organisations and trade unions. As long as we see credibility and results, we use political opportunities like these to improve working conditions for women throughout the supply chains and  the garment manufacturing stages, including often neglected manufacturing sectors such as spinning mills, weaving mills and dyeing works.

We support the work of trade unions and non-governmental organizations in India and Bangladesh with our solidarity fund by collecting donations in Germany.

We provide educational work at schools, universities and technical colleges and we advise public administrations on the purchase of fair produced working clothes.

We inform the public through events and publications.

We achieve our goals by networking with organisations, associations and actors of fair trade. We encourage people not only to critically question their consumption, but also to raise their voices and get involved in politics and civil society.
