But is there real solidarity behind the rainbow collections or just marketing? In the so-called Pride Month, many fashion companies advertise with rainbow flags, ‘Love is Love’ slogans and queer designs. What looks like progress at first glance often turns out to be pinkwashing on closer inspection: The targeted marketing of queer symbols without assuming structural responsibility. Visibility is important, but not unconditional True engagement means protecting queer workers in the supply chain, working with queer activists and designers, creating transparency about production conditions – and not just flagging in June. Those who market queer identities must also show an attitude and stand up for the rights of queer persons and their protection. Otherwise, the rainbow remains an empty promise. back
