The Human Rights Due Diligence of Companies - Political and Legal Approaches

The transnational networking of our global economy poses many challenges for the protection of human rights. The catastrophic conditions in the textile industry, which led to misfortunes such as the collapse of the Rana Plaza factory building in Bangladesh in 2013, or the slavery-like conditions under which guest workers work in Qatar in the context of the 2022 World Cup, are only the tip of the iceberg that reaches public perception in Germany. In times of global value chains and production networks, it is difficult to dismiss the co-responsibility of German companies and German politics, especially in view of the fact that the German economy is highly integrated into the world market.

The question of the role of companies and the state in ensuring the human rights due diligence of companies in their economic activities is the focus of this report.
