The market-oriented human being

Just 20 years ago, two-thirds of Germans had a full-time job with compulsory social security. It is 38% today. Almost half of them are already working in insecure jobs. How does this impermanence and competition change us humans and our social relationships? Are we on the way for the whole person to become a commodity?

The filmmakers go to the workplaces of the new models of capitalism such as the gig economy, such as work on demand. They meet people in previously safely believed work structures at universities or in long-term employment relationships in middle and upper management positions. And observe how, for example, outsourcing in the textile industry affects people and the environment and how the intensification of competition is increasingly shifting to the individual, which makes it very difficult to make room for the solidarity of sustainable social relations.

But this madness is not without alternatives. The film presents companies that operate according to the principle of the common good, employees of delivery services who set up a works council and the power of solidarity of young people who advocate system change. ‘The Market-Friendly Man’ is a film that questions the situation, wants to encourage people to get involved and unite. Because another life is possible.

The film should be shown to as many people as possible and can be organized as a film screening. Information about the film rental and an event guide can be found on marketable-people.org
