A large part of the trade unions had agreed on a joint demand to raise the minimum wage from 8,000 to 23,000 taka (approx. 194 €). This demand was based on a comprehensive study by the Bangladesh Institute for Labour Studies (BILS) „MIND THE GAP - A Study on Garment Workers in Bangladesh“ (PDF), supported by the organizations SÜDWIND Institute, INKOTA Network, HEJSupport and FEMNET, and took into account the difficult living conditions due to the effects of the corona crisis and an increased inflation rate.
